What gives us the right to speak with God? What
gives us the right to enter His presence?
What gives us the right to even speak His name?
Answer: ________________________________
3 Keys to this Passage
1– What gives us the right to enter God’s
presence [19]
2– How should we enter God’s presence [22]
3– What conditions are attached to entering
God’s presence [22-25]
Hebrews 10:19-25 (CEV)
My friends, the blood of Jesus gives us courage
to enter the most holy place [20] by a new way that leads to life! And
this way takes us through the curtain that is Christ himself. [21] We
have a great high priest who is in charge of God's house. [22] So let's
come near God with pure hearts and a confidence that comes from having
faith. Let's keep our hearts pure, our consciences free from evil, and
our bodies washed with clean water. [23] We must hold tightly to the
hope that we say is ours. After all, we can trust the one who made the
agreement with us. [24] We should keep on encouraging each other to be
thoughtful and to do helpful things. [25] Some people have gotten out of
the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should
keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day
of the Lord's coming is getting closer.
1– What gives us the right to enter God’s
presence [19]
My friends, the blood of Jesus gives us
courage to enter the most holy place [20] by a new way that leads to
life! And this way takes us through the curtain that is Christ himself.
2– How should we enter God’s presence [19-22]
My friends, the blood of Jesus gives us
courage to enter the most holy place [20] by a new way that leads to
life! And this way takes us through the curtain that is Christ himself.
Hebrews 10:19 (NIV) Therefore, brothers, since
we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of
Jesus,
Hebrews 10:19 (NLT) And so, dear brothers and
sisters, we can boldly enter heaven's Most Holy Place because of
the blood of Jesus.
Does this describe how you approach God on a
regular basis? Courage, Confidence, Boldness?
Hebrews 10:21-22 We have a great high priest
who is in charge of God's house. [22] So let's come near God with
pure hearts and a confidence that comes from having faith.
Faith
is looking at your problem with God’s eyes not looking at God through
your problem!
Worry
is maximizing the size of the problem and minimizing the size of God!
3– What conditions are attached to entering
God’s presence [22-25]
[22] Let's keep our hearts pure, our
consciences free from evil, and our bodies washed with clean water.
How do we keep our hearts pure?
Ephesians 4:25-32 (NLT) So put away all
falsehood and "tell your neighbor the truth" because we belong to each
other. [26] And "don't sin by letting anger gain control over you."
Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, [27] for anger
gives a mighty foothold to the Devil. [28] If you are a thief, stop
stealing. Begin using your hands for honest work, and then give
generously to others in need. [29] Don't use foul or abusive language.
Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be
an encouragement to those who hear them. [30] And do not bring sorrow to
God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he is the one who has
identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the
day of redemption. [31] Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh
words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. [32]
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
How do we keep our consciences free from evil?
1 Thessalonians 5:22 (NLT) Keep away from every
kind of evil.
1 John 1:9 (NLT) But if we confess our sins to
him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every
wrong.
1 Peter 3:21 (NLT) And this is a picture of
baptism, which now saves you by the power of Jesus Christ's
resurrection. Baptism is not a removal of dirt from your body; it is an
appeal to God from a clean conscience.
Is your heart pure? Is your conscience
free from evil? Have you been baptized as a believer?
The importance of having a pure heart means
you’ll be coming to God for the right reasons and with the right
motives!
[23] We must hold tightly to the hope
that we say is ours. After all, we can trust the one who made the
agreement with us. [23b]-- After all, we can trust the one who made the
agreement with us.
Are you holding tightly to the hope you have in
Jesus? Are you trusting God
COMPLETELY?
[24] We should keep on encouraging each other
to be thoughtful and to do helpful things.
Are you encouraging others to be thoughtful and
to do helpful things?
Are you encouraging others when they are
thoughtful and do helpful things?
[25] Some people have gotten out of the habit
of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should keep on
encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the
Lord's coming is getting closer.
Are you in the weekly habit of coming to
Worship?
Are you encouraging others to worship or are
you critical or judgmental of them when you don’t see them in worship?
How does God want us to come to Him?
What is an area of concern that you need to
give to God today?
