How to be a relational Bridge Builder

Three Seasons Community Church

"I’m not trying to impress other Christians. I’m trying to build a bridge to unbelievers so that Jesus can walk across." Rick Warren

We need a beginning [Where are you]

We need a destination [Where are you going]

We need an obstacle [What do you need to overcome]

"While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and ‘sinners’ came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ On hearing this, Jesus said, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’" - Matthew 9:10-13 (NIV)

We need a beginning [Where are you]

Where was Jesus?

Who was Matthew?

Who were Matthew’s friends?

We need a destination [Where are you going]

Where was Jesus’ destination?

What was Jesus trying to do?

VS 13– I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’"

No mission is complete without an obstacle!!!

We need an obstacle [What do you need to overcome]

What was the obstacle?

The Pharisees– who were the Pharisees?

Pharisees-- A group of Jews who thought they could best serve God by strictly obeying the laws of the Old Testament as well as their own rules, traditions, and teachings.

What did the Pharisees think about Jesus dinner guests?

The people who we think will be the most encouraging and enthusiastic about our new desire to share Jesus-- are not!

3 Essentials to Bridge Building

We need a beginning [Where are you]

We need a destination [Where are you going]

We need an obstacle [What do you need to overcome]

Without an obstacle there would be no reason to build a bridge!

#1 Dream in the next 10 Years

That we continue to be a church for the unchurched! That church continues to be a warm, friendly, caring, safe and fun place. That we would intentionally connect with the unchurched. That sharing our faith in Christ and what God is doing in our lives becomes an intentional habit. That every family prays for, connects with and invites at least one new person or family per year for the next 10 years. [Embrace & Edify]

Will we be out of this building in the next 10 years?

It all depends on how seriously WE take this challenge

Does God want His churches to be full?

4 Essentials to Relational Bridge Building

We need a beginning [Where are you]

Have a family discussion about the next three questions

We need a destination [Where are you going]

Who is our family going to be praying for, as a family to invite to church?

We need an obstacle [What do you need to overcome]

What is holding us back?

What do we need to do to get the job done?

Prayer...
