How to Dream

Three Seasons Community Church– 4-27-08

It’s not what happens that determines your life future– it’s what you do about what happens. All of us are like a sailboat– it’s not the blowing of the wind that determines our destination– it’s the setting of the sail.

Matthew 5:43-48 (NIV)

[45] that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

We spend far too much time testing and wishing to change the wind instead of setting the sail!!

In everyday life do you spend more time wishing the wind would change or setting your sail?

The same wind blows on us all!

The difference in where you arrive in 1, 3 or 5 years is not the blowing of the wind– BUT the setting of the sail!

There is only one person who can decide if you’re going to change– YOU!!

For things to change, you have to change

Don’t wish it was easier– wish you were better / Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills

Don’t wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom

James 1:5 (NIV) If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

John 12:24 (NIV) I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

How to Dream

      1. Commit and Delight yourself in the Lord

Proverbs 16:3 (NIV) Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

Psalm 37:4 (NIV) Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Jesus has to be the center and focus of our life and all our dreams!

      2. Examine your heart

What are the drives and desires that fill your heart?

Luke 6:45 (NIV)

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.

What comes out of your mouth when no one else is looking or no one else is around?

What are you hidden or secret thoughts?

Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.

Another indication of what is in our heart is the fruit we bear. [Matthew 12:33-35]

What kind of fruit are you bearing?

      3. See yourself as you are AND as God sees you

James 5:16 (NIV) Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

1 John 1:9 (NIV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

How does it feel to be forgiven? Are there areas of sinfulness or bondage that God needs to set free?

Ephesians 1-3

      4. Dream God Sized Dreams

Think of the most impossible things God has laid on your heart and believe these impossible dreams could be reality. HB London Jr.

Make sure you have at least 5 dreams every year that only God can do. Corrie Ten Boom

God can open up the biggest doors– there is no impossible dream!

5 M’s of Dreams

      Master– Who is my Master?

Mission– What is God telling me to do?

Method– What method do you want me to use?

Maintain what works and discard what is not working

Mate– Be a oneness with your mate / Harmony = joy / Disharmony = discouragement and difficulty achieving your mission

Philippians 4:13 (NIV) I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Once you understand your Mission you’ll be so motivated to get started accomplishing what God has laid on your heart.

There WILL be a lot of failure!
