The Power of Worship, Praise and Thanksgiving

Three Seasons Community Church– 1-27-08

The bottom line is that you make prayer about God and not about you.

Worship– is recognizing who God is– God’s character or qualities

Praise– is our response to what God has done, is doing or will do

Thanksgiving– is the grateful acknowledgment of both God’s character and all the things God has done, is doing, and will do!

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Worship– is recognizing who God is– God’s character or qualities

Isaiah 40:28-31 (NLT) Have you never heard or understood? Don't you know that the Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth? He never grows faint or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. [29] He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. [30] Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. [31] But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Psalm 34:8 (NLT) Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who trust in him!

Psalm 95:3-7a (NIV) For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. [4] In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. [5] The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. [6] Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; [7] for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

Praise– is our response to what God has done, is doing or will do

Psalm 59:16-17 (NLT) But as for me, I will sing about your power. I will shout with joy each morning because of your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety in the day of distress. [17] O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.

Philippians 4:4 (NIV) Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

1 Peter 2:9 (NIV) But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Thanksgiving– the grateful acknowledgment of both God’s character and all the things God has done, is doing, and will do!

Psalm 92:1-2 (NLT) It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to the Most High. [2] It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening,

Psalm 95:1-5 (NLT) Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us give a joyous shout to the rock of our salvation! [2] Let us come before him with thanksgiving. Let us sing him psalms of praise. [3] For the Lord is a great God, the great King above all gods. [4] He owns the depths of the earth, and even the mightiest mountains are his. [5] The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too.

Psalm 100:1-5 (NIV) Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. [2] Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

[3] Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his;

we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. [4] Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. [5] For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

This week:

ASSUMING God is Omniscient, which means He knows everything– which includes our needs.

Spend the majority if not all of your prayer time in Worship, Praise and Thanksgiving!

You’ll find yourself focusing on God more and yourself less!

Matthew 6:7-13 (NLT) "When you pray, don't babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again. [8] Don't be like them, because your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!

Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,

may your name be honored.

[10] May your Kingdom come soon.

May your will be done here on earth,

just as it is in heaven.

[11] Give us our food for today,

[12] and forgive us our sins,

just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.

[13] And don't let us yield to temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.
